At the start of January 2013, Room 220 of the Griffith Taylor room was transformed into the newest Driving Simulation Lab for all stationary driving simulation research.

Attracting much attention, this lab contains a SMART car as the controller. The car has been modified to provide inputs to the simulation. As such, the car ‘drives’ in the simulated environment as it would in the real world (accelerator pedal to go, steering to turn, blinkers and brake lights working in simulation and real life etc.). The simulation contains a 180º visual input provided by three projection screens fitted around the car. A large speaker system provides appropriate audio feedback.
